Self-guided tour through the UK (Aug. 2012)

At the beginning of 2012 David and I decided to go to England and Scotland. We looked at guided bus tours and self-guided tours through the different companies. After many months looking at all the options I decided that we could do our own self-guided tour. We decided to go in August just after the Olympics. So with flights booked it was time to plan out the adventure.

I spent a lot of time with Google, Google Maps and Booking.com over the next several months. I reviewed driving routes, places to stay and things to do until my eyeballs were ready to fall out! Even though I went to bed some nights with a headache, I did enjoy planning the trip in the end.

I would recommend getting the Oyster card to use for traveling around London. It is much easier to swipe a card for the tube system or bus than having to deal with cash and buying tickets all the time. We actually enjoyed taking the tube system. It took us no time before we had the hang of which trains went where.

So with passports in hand it was time to head off for a very long flight to England!

"Mind the gap!"
