Sites of London

August 16 - 19, 2012

After long overnight fights we made it to London. Excitement over took the lack of sleep from the flight. Although very tired we were very thrilled to be in England! Now just to find our lodging....

Glenlyn Guest House

David enjoying the night air.
I forgot to mention in my previous post that most of our lodging through out the trip will be at guest houses. We love to stay at Bed and Breakfast places and thought the guest house option would be the ticket. It is a little scary since you never know what you will get but we loved them all!

After a much needed nights sleep we headed to Hyde Park. Hyde Park is big and beautiful! We walked around a small portion of the park and then by Kensington Palace.

Entering Hyde Park

Kensington Gardens

These guys were guarding the gate for
Kensington Palace. They don't seem happy that
we took their picture!

Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace is huge! The grounds and building architecture are very pretty. The street that we are standing on also has a lot of the embassy's on it. They have signs along the street that say NO TAKING PICTURES. We took several and scooted along real fast!

Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain

The Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain is a very big oval shaped structure that has multiple levels and stone shaped objects for the water to flow over. The water flows around like a river. As you can see from the pictures the kids love it. They are able to climb in and play in  the water. A very fitting tribute to a lovely lady who loved kids.

Buckingham Palace

These guys are so cool

"Yes I'm texting while on guard duty"

We walked from the Hyde Park area to Buckingham Palace and we found the crowds when we got there! It was craziness for sure. We missed the changing of the guards but we still enjoyed watching the ones that were there. After walking most of the day we decided to take the boat tour/taxi down the River Thames to the Tower Bridge.

London Eye

Happy to be off our feet!

2012 Olympic Rings

Tower bridge
It was pretty awesome to be in London right after the Olympics. The view from the Tower bridge is breath taking. We never had the time to get on the London Eye. We planned to go one night but the time just got away from us. Since this post is getting long and I still have more to go, I will close this one for now and continue on the next one.

Hope you are enjoying just a sampling of our gazillion pictures!
